Walkist Privacy Policy

Walkist does not collect, store, transmit, or share any personal data. There is no account, no feed, no sharing, and no server of mine for anything to be sent to.
Where you are
Walkist follows your position while you are recording a walk, hike or ride, and while you are following a route, so it can measure how far you went and tell you when you have wandered off the line. It keeps following in the background, because a walk carries on while the phone is in your pocket. It asks for that the first time it needs it, and you can withdraw it whenever you like in Settings.
Your position is used on the phone and written into your own Health data. It goes nowhere else, and it does not come to me.
Health
Walkist saves each walk, hike or ride to Health as a workout, with the route you took and the distance you covered. It writes those and nothing else, and it reads nothing at all. It does not ask for permission to read your Health data, so it cannot see your heart rate, your steps, or anything another app put there.
Health is yours. It sits on your device, and in your own iCloud if you have Health sync turned on, and I have no way to reach it.
What is kept in the app
Two files in the app’s own storage on the phone:
- the routes you have drawn by hand, which are the one thing Health has no place for
- the walk in progress, written down as it happens, so that a phone dying half way up a hill does not lose the track
A finished walk lives in Health rather than in the app.
The map
The map is Apple Maps. Showing it means your phone asks Apple’s servers for the part of the world you are looking at, the same as any app with a map in it, and Apple handles that under its own privacy policy. Beyond that, Walkist makes no network connections of its own.
What there is none of
No account, no sign-in, no feed, no sharing, no followers, no kudos, no leaderboards, no analytics, no advertising, no tracking, no in-app purchases, and no subscription.
