Packing Order Support

Packing Order turns a destination, two dates and a kind of trip into a packing list you tick off standing at the wardrobe. It gets better at it the more trips you take. It runs on the iPhone and the iPad.

Say what you did, what happened, and what you expected instead. These help:

• the iPhone or iPad, and the version of iOS or iPadOS on it
• the version of Packing Order from the App Store listing
• for a list that came out wrong, the destination, the dates, the kind of trip and how you were getting there
• for anything about the weather, whether the header said it was using the forecast or the season

What to expect

I write these apps on my own, in my own time, so this is not a support desk. I read everything that comes in. A reply usually takes a few days, and a fix takes longer than a reply.

Things that are working as intended

• It keeps suggesting something you never pack. Swipe it away on two trips and it stops suggesting it, as long as you have not packed it more often than you have removed it. It also stops after three trips where you left it unticked and never added it yourself.
• Something you always pack has not appeared yet. Type it in and it joins the list next time for that kind of trip after twice, and for every trip after three times.
• The weather looks like a guess. More than ten days out it is one. Apple Weather gives ten days; past that the app uses what the season and the latitude usually give, and the header says so.
• No travel adapter for a trip abroad. It appears only when the plugs there are actually different from the ones at home.
• Quantities stop going up after a week. After seven days you find a washing machine, so the counts cap there rather than sending you with fourteen pairs of socks.

Getting a trip out of the app

Any open trip shares as plain text, tick boxes and all, into a message, a note or anywhere else. Next to it is a printer. It prints the list as a page with a box against every item, whether or not you have already ticked it in the app, so you can work down it with a pen propped against the open bag. The print sheet is the system’s own, so you choose the paper, or save the page as a PDF instead.

“Share Every Trip” at the foot of the trips list hands over all of them at once, as one text file, newest trip first. Keep it in Files or mail it to yourself. What the app has learned about you stays behind: it is counts against item names, and they mean nothing away from the app that made them.

Privacy

Packing Order collects nothing. Two things go to Apple: the place name you type, and the destination’s coordinate for the forecast. The privacy policy says what that means in full.
