Brushwise Support
Last updated: 11 September 2026
Brushwise walks you through a full clean, morning and night: water flosser, floss, a real two-minute brush including your tongue, then mouthwash, with a toothbrush check at the end of the week. It runs the clock, and it tells you why each part matters. It runs on the iPhone.
Report a problem
Email me at alex@alexecollins.com. You do not need an account anywhere to do it, and I would rather have a short email than nothing.
Say what you did, what happened, and what you expected instead. These help:
- the iPhone and the version of iOS on it
- the version of Brushwise from the App Store listing
- for anything about a routine, which stages you had switched on, and whether it was the morning or the night one
- for a reminder that did not arrive, the two times you have set and whether notifications are allowed for Brushwise in the iOS Settings app
What to expect
I write these apps on my own, in my own time, so this is not a support desk. I read everything that comes in. A reply usually takes a few days, and a fix takes longer than a reply.
Things that are working as intended
- The water flosser and floss stages have no timer. They take as long as they take, and a clock would only rush you. Tap Next when you are done. Brushing and mouthwash are timed, because there the number is the point.
- A brush at one in the morning counts as last night. The day turns over at 4 am, so a late routine lands on the day you think it did rather than starting a new one.
- The toothbrush check only appears once a week. Bristles do not wear out in a day. Once the check has been done, it stays away for seven.
- A stage you switched off still shows up in the advice. Turning it off tells the app to stop timing it, not to stop recommending it. A full routine is still the advice.
- The soundtrack plays with the ring switch off. A soundtrack you chose is the point of pressing Start, so it plays the way music does. Run a routine in silence and the step and stage cues behave the other way round: they respect the switch, and they mix with whatever you already had playing.
- Start goes straight into the routine without asking about the soundtrack. It plays the one you picked last, because answering the same question twice a day is not a choice. Switch on Ask before each routine in Settings to pick, and hear, each one as you go.
- Every claim in the app cites something. The tips come from current NHS, ADA and Oral Health Foundation guidance, and each one names its source in the source code. It is general guidance rather than advice from your own dentist or hygienist.
Reminders
Brushwise asks for permission to send notifications after your first routine, or when you first touch the reminder settings, rather than on the launch screen. Two reminders a day, at times you pick, set to 8 am and 8 pm until you change them. They clear themselves when you open the app, so they do not pile up in Notification Centre.
If they stop arriving, check Settings → Daily reminders in Brushwise first, then Notifications for Brushwise in the iOS Settings app.
Apple Health
Turn on Log to Apple Health in Settings and each finished brushing is written to Health as a Tooth Brushing event, with the time it started and stopped. Brushwise only ever writes. It cannot read your Health data, and the permission it asks for does not allow it to. Change your mind in the Health app: Profile → Apps → Brushwise.
Privacy
Brushwise collects nothing, makes no network connections, and has no account. The privacy policy says what that means in full.
