Wall First Support

Wall First lets you arrange pictures on a wall before you put a nail in it. Photograph each piece, mark the wall in the camera, then move the pieces around on a straight-on photo, or live on the real wall in AR, until it looks right.

Email me at alex@alexecollins.com. You do not need an account anywhere to do it, and I would rather have a short email than nothing.

Say what you did, what happened, and what you expected instead. These make it much easier to find:

• the iPad or iPhone, and the version of iPadOS or iOS on it
• the version of Wall First from the App Store listing
• for a measurement that came out wrong, how big the piece really is and what the app said
• for anything about the wall, whether you marked it in daylight or under a lamp

What to expect

I write these apps on my own, in my own time, so this is not a support desk. I read every email. A reply usually takes a few days, and a fix takes longer than a reply.

Things that are working as intended

• The iPhone cannot arrange. On an iPhone Wall First is a capture companion: photograph pieces, import them, keep the library. Marking walls and arranging happen on the iPad, where there is room to see the wall.
• The iPad stays in landscape. A wall is wider than it is tall, and so is the app.
• The iPad and the iPhone do not see each other’s work. Wall First syncs through your own iCloud, so both devices have to be signed in to the same Apple Account. The iCloud section of Settings in the app says whether it is syncing or running from a local store on that device. Everything works either way, but a piece captured on one device only reaches the other through iCloud.
• Saved photos is empty, and there is no “Wall First” album. Photos only lets an app file pictures into an album when it has full access. If you gave Wall First a selection of photos instead, your captures still reach your library, but they land loose among your own photos and there is no album for the app to show. Give it full access in Settings and it makes the album, and captures from then on go into it.

Privacy

Wall First has no account, no analytics, and no server of mine. Nothing you photograph and nothing you measure reaches me. Your walls and pieces sync through your own iCloud, and each capture is copied into your own Photos library. Both stay under your Apple Account. The privacy policy says what that means in full.
